Château Cos d’Estournel 2017, Second Grand Cru Classé of Saint-Estèphe, also called “Super Second”, released today. Come back on Saint-Estèphe jewel, awarded by 100 Points Wine Advocate, for the second year.

Cos d’Estournel 2017 : Deep and Subtle Vintage.

At Château Cos d’Estournel, the precociousness of the vintage became evident with bud break in March and the following event in the vineyard, including flowering, veraison and harvest. So, climatic conditions at that time, which means hot weather early on and unsual water stress enabled clay soils to produce exceptional Merlot. Generally speaking, these extreme weather trends allowed the vintage to develop in a progressive fashion. High temperatures in June combined to low rainfall and a fresh summer allowed tannins to reach optimal maturity and a maintained balanced between acidity and potential alcohol cotent. The minutious care taken by the technical team all along the 2017 year allowed the estate to bring the fruit and body of the wines to their fullest expression while preserving freshness. Château Cos d’Estournel 2017 has revealed its magnificient to the world during the En Primeur tastings (all our comments about vintage 2017 en Primeur tastings by clicking here).

Cos d’Estournel 2017 : Sophisticated

07th of June have given rhythm to en Primeur campaign with the release of coveted labelling such as Grands Crus Classés B chateau Pavie Macquin, La Gaffelière or Clos Fourtet. However, only one big name from Left Bank was on everyone minds : Château Cos d’Estournel. It must be said that Wine Advocate 97-100 scores in April has stirred up passions… Described by Lisa Perrotti-Brown as “something of a miracle in our modern times“, vintage 2017 is awarded by the best scores of the review, for the second year. But despite the excitement, the estate’s aim is still the same : “a limited pool of negociants selected in regards to their distribution both in quality and repartition”.

But Cos d’Estournel 2017, the big star of this vintage, was not the only one to be awarded by the Press. So, tastings of Pagodes de Cos 2017, second wine of the estate and Cos d’Estournel Blanc 2017 introduce us to a  timeless and unforgettable journey through the senses. Indeed, since its creation in 1994 , Pagodes de Cos is made from grapes grown on dedicated plots. In 2017, the wine is characteristically round on the palate but also offers its own unique charm and is a true alternative to the Grand Vin. Cos d’Estournel Blanc, on its side, offes a floral nose and pure aromas of fruit. Exemple of balance, Cos d’Estournel Blanc 2017 was really appreciate by our whole team.

So, at 8:30 AM of 07th sunny morning, Charles Thomas, Commercial Director of the estate told us : “We are realising today Cos d’Estournel 2017 that follows the quality of previous vintages of this decade at Cos d’Estournel. Once again vintage 2017 reveals the exceptionnal qualities of our magnificent terroir. Journalists and clients comments confirme their enthusiasm for our wines“.
