The history of the Bages estate dates back to the very old village of Bages, which sheltered generations of wine growers. The land of Bages is mentioned since the 16th century on the land of Lafite. Formerly owned by the illustrious Lynch family, of Irish origin, the estate was bought in 1934 by Jean-Charles Cazes. His grandson, Jean-Michel, began his restructuring in 1974,  with technical equipment, while retaining the old vat, witness of the nineteenth century. It was under his leadership that Lynch-Bages gained the eminently generous and profound character we know today. Criticism is unanimous: this wine flirts with the best second-growth wines of the appellation. The philosophy here is deployed in the service of the Cazes family’s vision of an “art of living wine”.

Located at the gates of Pauillac and overlooking the Gironde estuary, the vineyard Lynch-Bages extends on one of the most beautiful ridges of the town. The production of Château Lynch Bages represents 66% of the total harvest. The grape variety is 69% Cabernet Sauvignon, 26% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc, 2% Petit Verdot. The harvest is picked up by hand and carefully sorted. After a careful selection of vats, the wine is traditionally aged in oak barrels until bottled. In the interest of sustainable development, agriculture is in every way reasoned: fertilization methods defined precisely and adapted to soil, optimized phytosanitary control, use of sexual confusion against worms of the bunch, controlled grassing of plots for control the vigor of the vine, prolonged rest of the soil by flowering fallow land… The use of neutral products for the environment is everywhere favored.

For the tasting, Château Lynch Bages combines structure, finesse and elegance. Generous from his youth, he evolves in his maturity towards more flavors and complexity.
