Vintage 2015: everyone still remembers the “hype” he had aroused. Now bottled, does the experts who had announced it as the vintage of the century are still unanimous ? Which are the wines that stand out ? What are their scores ?

Vintage 2015 : Big Hopes

Remember, after an excellent bloom, the summer of 2015 was hot and dry, making us fear a “solar” vintage. But, thanks to reconstituted groundwater stocks, the water stress of the vine was optimal. The early cessation of growth in July has therefore generated a good veraison (beginning of maturation). On the other hand, the late season, with occasional rains, hot days and cold nights did the rest. 2015 was certainly not a quiet and easy vintage for our winemaker friends, but the game was well worth the effort. After some late 2015, we had to wait again to be certain of the quality of this vintage, but the smile was already on all the faces of the owners.

Vintage 2015 : A campain in the starting-blocks!

After so much hope, the 2015 season campaign was one of the most waited for campaigns in recent years. At the beginning of April 2016, early tastings confirmed an exceptional vintage. Quickly, the scores of the journalists reassured the actors of the sector. When the marketing began in mid-April, everything was brought together to make these 2015 futures a huge success. And we were not disappointed ! After two intensive months of early season, the conclusion was positive for the entire industry.

Vintage 2015 : Press Stars

Last month, the press published the scores of this famous 2015 vintage, bottled. Conclusion, many scores above 96/100: excellent news! James Suckling even pointed out that “Red, White or Fluffy, each wine expresses harmony, structure and exceptional finesse”.

Vintage 2015

On his side Decanter puts in his top 3, Châteaux Cheval Blanc, Mouton-Rothschild and Margaux who all get the exceptional score of 98 points, closely followed by Château Haut Bailly with 97 points and Château Canon with 96 points. On the side of the whites, it is the Château Haut Brion and Smith Haut Lafitte which stand out with 96 points. Jane Anson particularly celebrates the incredible intensity of Smith Haut Lafitte Blanc.

On his side, Antonio Galloni, in the magazine Vinous, gives Château Canon (again) and Domaine de Chevalier as his favorites of this 2015 vintage. In this article of February 2018 “2015 Bordeaux, Every Bottle Tells a Story…” he has thus revealed his favorites by name. According to him, the great successes in 2015 are in Margaux and Saint-Julien: “On the Left Bank, Margaux and Saint-Julien are the epicenter of brilliance“. However, other regions are not left out and Pomerol, Pessac-Léognan and Saint-Emilion stand out. Thus, Château Canon is described as “vertiginous” and Domaine de Chevalier “excelled with both red and white“.
