The history of Château Rauzan-Ségla begins under the reign of Louis XIV, when Pierre de Rauzan acquires the estate in 1661. Over time, generations of Rauzan succeed at the head of the property. The reputation of Rauzan-Ségla’s wines is growing remarkably and they are among the most highly rated in Bordeaux. They seduce many personalities and especially Thomas Jefferson who, during his journey in the vineyards of Bordeaux, discovered this vintage and ordered several crates. A few years later, the 1855 ranking will place Château Rauzan-Ségla at the rank of Second Grand Cru Classé. In 1903, Frédéric Cruse, owner of the estate, had the current château built. But time passes and the castle falls asleep little by little. It will be necessary to wait until 1994, with the acquisition of the domain by the house Chanel, so that the complete renovation of the field gives back to the Castle and its park all its brightness.

The vineyard area is 52 hectares. Each parcel is worked according to its grape variety, terroir and precocity. The reasoned fight of the vineyard composed of 63.5% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, 1% Petit Verdot and 0.5% Cabernet Franc allows to work in the greatest respect for the environment. The average age of the vines is 27 years old. The grapes are picked manually and transported directly to the winery. The berries are poured on a first vibrating table where the clusters not having a perfect sanitary state are eliminated manually. Each vine plot is vinified separately in thermo-regulated stainless steel vats. The wines are aged in French oak barrels of which 50% to 60% are renewed each year to bring a harmonious balance. The breeding cellars have been completely renovated and a conditioning room completes the facilities in Rauzan-Ségla.

En cours de conversion biologique. Le premier millésime certifié sera 2024.

At the tasting, Château Rauzan-Ségla offers a moment of pure pleasure for a wine worthy of the greatest Médoc, all in finesse and full of elegance.
