History

The history of Château Mouton Rothschild is that of a magical encounter between soil, climate and the passion of a man: Baron Philippe de Rothschild. Led by two exceptional personalities, Baron Philippe de Rothschild (1902 – 1988) and his daughter, the Baroness Philippine (1933 – 2014), Château Mouton Rothschild is also a space of art and beauty thanks to its spectacular Grand Chai with a mesmerising perspective, its famous Museum of Wine in Art which brings together two millennia of precious objects associated with the vineyard and the wine and also thanks to its new and magnificent Cuvier, inaugurated in 2013.

Château Mouton Rothschild belongs today to the three children of the Philippine Baroness: Camille Sereys de Rothschild, Philippe Sereys de Rothschild, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the family company Baron Philippe de Rothschild, in charge of theChâteau management, and Julien de Beaumarchais de Rothschild, Vice-President. Faithfully following the work of their grandfather and their mother, all three are committed to perpetuating the motto of the illustrious Premier Cru: “Mouton does not change”. Even if he changes!

The estate also produces a second wine : Le Petit Mouton de Mouton Rothschild

Terroir & Vinification

The terroir of Château Mouton Rothschild, Premier Cru Classé, has 84 hectares of vines in Pauillac, Médoc, planted with noble grape varieties from the region: Cabernet Sauvignon (80%), Merlot (16%), Cabernet Franc (3% ), Petit-Verdot (1%). The estate benefits from exceptional natural conditions, both its soil quality and its exposure and sunshine. From the grapes to the bottle, it is carefully cared for, combining the respect of tradition with the most modern techniques: highly qualified oenologists, winemakers responsible for each plot of the estate, hand-picked grapes, grapes harvested in crates and sorted on vibrating tables, vinification in oak vats equipped with transparent staves, maturation of the wine in new oak barrels.

Tasting

At the tasting, Château Mouton Rotshchild represents pure elegance. First of all, he color is dark cherry red and intense. Then, the nose, of great finesse, suggests a perfect maturity of the fruit. The aromas of blueberry and ripe blackcurrant harmoniously blend with floral notes. There are also pretty peppery and spicy fragrances nuanced by elegant notes of graphite and blond tobacco that bring charm and nobility. Finally, in the mouth, the attack is full, dense, revealing tannins exceptionally coated and silky. The finish is fleshy, remarkably persistent.
