History

The Domain was created in 1925 by Pierre GELIN. It has been run by Stéphen GELIN since 1969, then by his son Pierre-Emmanuel who took over. The latter pays particular attention to the cultivation method, by having the plots certified in organic farming. The wine is certified since the 2016 vintage.
Until the end of the 17th century, the wine of FIXIN had acquired a greater reputation than the wine produced by the neighboring commune of GEVREY-CHAMBERTIN. Located in the Côte de Nuits, between Marsannay and Gevrey-Chambertin, FIXIN (pronounced Fissin) was united in 1860 with its hamlet Fixey. La Cocarde is a specific parcel of land used for the production of this wine, which gives it its name.

Terroir

La Cocarde comes from a parcel of 0.43 hectares, and the soils are of clay and limestone. This parcel is, like the rest of the property, cultivated in Organic Agriculture. The Pinot Noir, the main grape variety of the region, is harvested by hand, then 30% of the harvest is vinified in whole bunches. Indeed, it is what allows, for this cuvée, a complete expression of the grape variety and its terroir. Finally, the wine is aged for 21 months in oak barrels.

Tasting

This wine is all texture, an almost creamy mouthfeel with sensations of taffeta and velvet. A silky edge to the attack precedes a racy mid-palate. The finish is firmer, supported by ripe and sweet tannins of great breadth. A little acidity comes to balance the whole. This wine presents itself as  perfectly balanced; a model of harmony.
