In order to simplify and speed the deliveries, the Grand Cru Classé Château Guiraud opened two storage cellars, one in Hong Kong and one in Shenzhen.

‘This is the key for Sauternes wines, as we need to show how flexible they are, particularly with Chinese cuisine’, says the brand ambassador Augustin Lacaille.

Though Guiraud will not have a full-time representative in China, and will continue to work as usual with Bordeaux wine traders and their local Chinese distributors.

Latest figures from the Bordeaux Wine Bureau (CIVB) recorded that sales of Sauternes wines to Hong Kong and China rose by 50% over 2010.
